Assignment 26: Celebrating Failure

This past semester I heard back from an internship that I had applied for, and it was not what I wanted to hear. I knew that applying for this internship was going to be a stretch, but I went for it anyway. However, I applied and ended up getting an interview. I think that this made me get my hopes up a little because the interview went really well. I was disappointed when I got the email that I did not get the internship

I think that I handle failure pretty well. I was not always this way, but you have to learn in order to grow. I try to keep the mindset that it is just another learning experience rather than failure. This class has taught me that failing is okay. Experiencing something is the best learning opportunity a person can have. Each time you fail, you get one step closer to succeeding.

  1. I love that last line you wrote about: Failure is just one step closer to succeeding! That’s a great way to look at it. It’s so true. I hope you’ll try many more internships. When my daughter was looking for her nursing job, she was nervous. I said, to remember, you just need one. Out of all those interviews, you and all of us will eventually succeed. Sometimes we end up at an unexpected place that ends up being a dream come true.

  2. I love this post Madison! It is very true that failure is just one step away from succeeding and I think that's a great perspective to have when looking for internships and jobs. When I apply for certain things and do not get the position I am really sad at first but then remember that I learned something from that interview/process and use that to do better and succeed next time around.

  3. Hey Madison,
I love how you choose what to do with your failure. You embraced it and treated it as a learning experience and made it one that helps defy who you are today. All successful entrepreneurs in life need to possess that idea of failure that you possess. Don't doubt yourself and keep moving forward. I love how you concluded your post with such a powerful quote. Great post!

  4. Hi Madison, I think you chose a very honest situation to reflect on. Not only did you have to face failure, but you also had to face rejection, an equally difficult thing to endure. I think you understand that failing is ok and that is indeed one step closer to succeeding. I think the journey to success requires setbacks along the way. However, a setback does not mean failure and I think you have internalized this well.

  5. Hey Mads, everyone experiences a failure that at the end of the day they can only understand. No matter what anyone says, words don’t mean much when you are hurt. However, it seems like you tried your best and a lot of times that’s all you can really ask for. I know that you learned so much from this experience that you will be more prepared next time.

  6. Hey Madison! This was a very inspiring post. When you get knocked down, you should always try to get up again, even when its hard. I think there's a lot that people can learn from your experience. Don't ever be afraid to put yourself out there. The worst thing that can happen is for someone to tell you "no". Then you just move on to your next thing

  7. Hey Madison! I think that, especially in the era of social media, it is so easy to be hard on ourselves for failures like being denied from internships because people are only publishing their successes. You never know if the person that just posted that they accepted an internship got denied by a 100 before they got the one acceptance! I went through something really similar this semester but I learned everything works out for a reason!
