Assignment 6- Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

1) The Cost of the Shutdown (so far): A Statistician's Estimate https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/the-cost-of-the-shutdown-a-statisticians-estimate Liberty Vittert explains the ranges of how much money the government shutdown is costing the government. There are over 800,000 people without pay. This also affects how much these people are spending in the economy. Since they are not getting paid, they are spending less as a whole. Nothing is going to be accomplished without necessary communication between the democrats and the republicans. Workers of the federal government are not being paid, and that effects them in tax season coming up and overall basic living My brother is in the US Coast Guard. He is currently underway which means he is out to sea. For more than half of his time underway, he has not been getting paid. My brothers only source of income is what he makes while at work, and for 35 days he has not been getting paid. Additionally, the government shut down has been a...

1) "The 30 Fastest-Shrinking Towns in N.J. in the Past Decade" https://www.nj.com/expo/news/g66l-2019/01/4c2cb577f19716/the-30-fastestshrinking-towns-in-nj-in-the-past-decade.html In the past ten years, New Jersey's population has grown by 3.6 percent. New Jersey has now ranked the 35th fastest growing state in the country. While the state is increasing by number, individual counties are dropping in population. Many people in New Jersey are moving from the suburban areas to the more urban areas. New Jersey is an expensive state to live in. Towns with large school systems tend to have higher taxes. People are leaving rural towns and counties to be closer to the cities. The problem in this story is that while the population of New Jersey is growing, individual towns and counties are experiencing a dramatic population shift. This problem is faced by anyone who is also trying to move to urban areas. Additionally, this problem also affects the people of the towns that ...

Opportunity- Assignment 4

Opportunity I believe that an opportunity exists. This opportunity is not from any of my blogs before this, but it has to do with a big part of my life. Each winter, I go to Vermont quite often with my family, and we even bring our pets. A daily struggle is who is going to take a break from snowboarding to go let the dogs out. Belief Many people who consistently go skiing or snowboarding have pets, and from experience, many people enjoy bringing their pets to the mountain with them. These people often struggle with having a full day on the mountain due to worry or anxiety about letting their animals out. Many ski resorts and hotels are pet-friendly, meaning people can bring their pets. However, the problem is when people have to leave their animals all day in a hotel room, condo or house while they are out on the slopes. This problem has been around for a while. However, I feel as if society is more attached to their pets now than ever. Out of all the ski resorts I have been to, I ...

Jersey Mike's Subs- Assignment 3

Image
I am from a small town in New Jersey, called Wall. Growing up we always ate Jersey Mike's Subs. I played a few sports, so in between games or practices, the parents always used to bring big platters of the subs. Then in middle school, I found out that one of my friend's dads is the owner of all of the Jersey Mike's. As I got older, I finally learned his story. Peter Cancro was a freshman at Point Pleasant Beach High School when he started working at Mike's Submarines. There was talk of selling the store, so after some thinking, Mr. Cancro decided to buy it at the age of 17. About a decade later, Mr. Cancro chose to change the name to Jersey Mike's Subs and franchise the sub shop. Today, there are more than 1,500 Jersey Mike's Subs opened, or on their way to being opened. After visiting many shops around the country, I can say that each shop has been consistent with quality and taste. Additionally, I have noticed that each shop always has the original Point P...

Things That Bug Me- Assignment 2

1) When people from New Jersey call Pork Roll, Taylor Ham  This really bothers me because the brand name is Taylor and nowhere on the box says "Taylor Ham". The Box says, Taylor Pork Roll. 2) When I am driving, it really bothers me when I am behind someone who does not use their blinker when they are turning. This bothers me because it's the law and it takes no effort to put your blinker on. 3) When my United Airlines flights are delayed flying out of Newark, NJ airport This really bothers me because United pretty much runs Newark Airport. They have their own terminal, so they also have the most convenient flight times. My flights are delayed more than they aren't. 4) Coming home after a long day to dirty dishes in the sink This bothers me because dirty dishes are dirty, it's different than clutter, which doesn't bother me. 5) When silverware clinks together, either at a restaurant or while my mom is putting it away The sound of silverware clinkin...
