Assignment 15: Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

These interviews were very helpful for me and opened my eyes in a new light. Some offered new ideas, and some asked important questions that needed to be addressed. Interview 1: The first person I talked to loved the idea of the business. She asked me if cats were able to go too. I told her that they were, the service will most frequently be used by dogs, but cats are welcome too. However, I say that dogs are going to frequent the service most because most other animals are able to be left alone longer. Interview 2: The second person I interviewed told me that I should also offer an hourly rate. Some people may only want to be on the mountain for a short period of time, so by offering hourly rates, it will help accommodate everyone. I like this idea because I think it is a great addition to the business, and it is not a huge change that will take much time to work in. Interview 3: The third person that I interviewed asked if I was willing to expand on the idea if my first place w...

Assignment 14- Halfway Reflection

Image
Tenaciousness is a competency. This class has really helped me manage my time better. This semester I have four online classes and one in person. Each of my online classes requires many hours each week. This class seems to take up the most time, so I really have gotten better at planning my days to ensure I don't miss any assignments. Instead of trying to take the short cuts, I have been watching all my lectures and taking good notes. By doing this I feel more organized and less stressed on a day to day basis.  Tenaciousness is also about attitude. A moment that I felt like giving up this semester was during a week when I had so many assignments that I did not know how I was going to finish all of them. To name a few of the assignments I had a ten page paper due, a content marketing project due for a different class, three total discussions, the two blogs for this class, a quiz and an exam. I was extremely overwhelmed at first and I did not even know where to start...

Assignment 13- Reading Reflection No. 1

1) Steve Jobs What surprised you the most? It surprised me most that Steve Jobs was a college dropout. During his adoption, his biological parents insisted on having college graduates adopt Jobs. His adopted parents did not graduate college, and Jobs went to college but did not finish. What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I admire Steve Jobs' determination and drive. Even when he had all signs pointing him to give up, he kept going. His competitiveness kept him in the game and allowed him to create one of the most successful brands in the world. What about the entrepreneur did you  least  admire? I understand that Jobs was a hippie, and at the time he did not want to undergo the "normal" cancer treatment. At first, he chose to go vegan and use acupuncture, and then after some time, he finally gave in to have the surgery. Pancreatic cancer is very aggressive, and for someone who is stem-based, it surprises me that he did not take into consider...

Assignment 12- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Choosing a Segment:  The segment that I opted for this assignment is a segment for people who ski or snowboard. All of the people that I interviewed love to ski or snowboard. For them to qualify for this segment, they also need to have a pet. Interviews:  The first person I interviewed is a 25-year-old male who has one dog. He loves bringing his dog with him to the mountain. He always knew that part of bringing his dog with him to the mountain was that he was going to have to take care of him. He never thought of the service, but he likes the idea. The second person that I interviewed is a 40-year-old woman who loves going to Vermont, but she does not ski or snowboard. Her family snowboards while she does other things with her friends, and takes care of the dogs. Since she is there, the service would not be necessary for them. The last person that I interviewed was a 20-year-old boy who lives on the mountain with a few friends. He has a dog, and the dog is very comfortable ...

Assignment 11- Idea Napkin No. 1

YOU:  My name is Madison Berardo, and I am a third-year advertising major with a concentration in business. I have had three marketing internships, and I have another one lined up for this summer. I do not mind talking in front of big crowds, so I like public speaking. I am a very determined and dedicated person, so when I commit to something, I do not quit. I have always been interested in business, so starting my own would be a challenge I am willing to accept. In regards to my home life, I really enjoy snowboarding and animals. Opening up a pet care facility at ski resorts would combine many of the things that I enjoy doing. It would also give me a chance to live in the mountain for a while, which is something that I always wanted to do. This business would be a big part of my life. WHAT ARE YOU OFFERING TO CUSTOMERS:  The service that I would be providing is pet care at ski resorts. During the hours that the mountain operates, I would offer to board people's animals. Foo...

This is my elevator pitch about pet care at ski resorts called Snow Paws.

Assignment 9- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

WHO: After conducting a second set of interviews, I have come to realize that there are people who fall outside of my market. The people who fall outside of my target market are those who do not have pets to bring when they go to a ski resort, those who do not bring their pets with them to the ski resort and those who do not go to ski resorts at all. Interview 1:  The first person I interviewed was a man in his 50s who has been snowboarding for over 30 years. This man has one dog at home and is married to his wife, and they have four kids. Since all of the kids are on different schedules, his whole family is rarely able to go on a snowboarding trip together. Since someone usually is home, he does not have to worry about bringing the dog with him to Vermont. The stress is not in the back of his mind because he knows that the dog is being taken care of by someone in his family. Interview 2:  The second person I interviewed is in her 20s, and she has been skiing for about ten y...

Assignment 8- Solving the Problem

Image
I believe that I thought of a solution that would help all of the people who are stressed and worried when they bring their dog(s) to the ski resort with them. My solution is to open pet-care facilities at ski resorts. To start, I am going to open a pet-care facility at Stratton Mountain in Vermont, because that is the mountain I frequent and it would be the first place to test it out. Stratton mountain has a village at the main base. My plan is to purchase one of the open storefronts and turn it into a pet care place. This facility would provide the service of boarding the dogs during the hours that the mountain is open to ensure the owners that their pets are in good hands. In addition to boarding, free play time, belly rubs, and food would also be included in the price. If a person is staying on the mountain and would rather leave their animals at home, the pet care place would also offer employees to go to their house, condo or hotel room. This service would allow the skiers a...

Assignment 7- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1) People that bring their pets to ski resorts have to break up their days to let out their dog, and they often have that worry of their pet in the back of their mind all day because skiing or snowboarding all day long is a while to be left alone. 2) The who: People who bring their pets to ski resorts     The what: They have to break up their day on the mountain to take care of their pet     The why: A full day on the mountain is a long time to leave a pet alone, and they have the worry of their animal in the back of their mind all day. 3)I believe that people who bring their pets to ski resorts have a need for making sure that their animals are cared for while they are out on the mountain during the day. The only people who have this problem are the people who bring their pets, most commonly dogs to ski resorts. I have been to many ski resorts around the world, and people love to bring their dogs. People treat their pets as part of the family....
