Assignment 25: What's Next?
What I think is next?
I think that after Snow Paws opened, I would evaluate its first season, and see how the business did. After, I would be open to any improvements to perfect my business. I also want to make sure that I have a strong relationship with my customers. If all is going well, I want to explore my options of expanding my business. Killington, Mt. Snow and Magic Mountain are a few mountains near Stratton that could be future Snow Paws locations.
Current Market Interviews:
All three of the people that I interviewed gave similar feedback. They all said how I should make sure to have all of the resources necessary to care for the animals. I should also make sure that I am making enough of a profit to even consider any expansion. The feedback was positive and good. They mainly had basic questions regarding the day to day operations of the business. They also wanted to know if I was going to be open seasonally or year round. During the winter I will be open, but during the summer, it might depend on the week. The mountain is completely pet friendly in the summer, they are allowed on the gondola to the top of the mountain too.
New Market Interview:
The new market that I decided to target is a younger market. Most of the people I am targeting are established families. Therefore, I want to know if someone in their 20s who is not with family would be willing to use this service. I interviewed two boys and a girl in their 20s who have dogs and who goes snowboarding frequently. One boy said he would use the service because he does worry about his dog while he is out on the mountain. The girl I interviewed said the same. The third boy I interviewed said he would not use the service. His explanation was because he said he does not really have the extra money to pay for the service because snowboarding is already an expensive trip. He liked the idea, but it was not for him at this point in his life.

Hi Madison, I like your views on how you can expand your business and I think the feedback you got contains some good ideas as well. I think your view on expanding to other mountains is a great idea as if you can proof your business as valid on one mountain, I am sure it can translate to another location. Finally, I think catering to a younger generation is interesting, I am curious how advertising to two different demographics would vary.
ReplyDeleteWhen I selected a pet sitter at home, I chose one that was a vet tech. They have some skills with animals who are ill and are kind of like a nurse. You could couple your business with that and a nearby vet to let customers know that you have a vet I case your animals should require it. Otherwise people feel guilty leaving their animals behind when they go to have fun without them, so pamper, pamper, pamper their pet and they’ll love it. My dog gets “play time” at her kennel for $5 each time and play time is 15 minutes. Hopefully they actually do it, so a quick video clip of that would solidify it. Great idea, you will be successful!
ReplyDeleteHey Madison,
ReplyDeleteI like the new market segment you decided to target. For myself personally on this assignment it was the hardest for me to find an applicable target segment. The new segment helps prove that even if we initially thought we could not target everyone outside our comfort segment there are still people who would find the service useful outside of it. To be able to expand and branch out your target segment like you did is key in growing as an overall business.
Hey Madison! I think it was smart to consider the younger market. Although they won't be the bulk of your clientele, they will still be a demographic you want to work with. I would make sure that you business has some sort of certification or licensing to let people know that their pets are in good hands. But other than that I think it all looks great!
ReplyDeleteHey Mads I have continued to follow your idea and it seems to be coming along nicely. Your plan of action after beginning your business seems solid and your idea of your current and new market are well defined. I like how your current market which is catered towards adults has a long term year around plan. Also I think you have great potential in the new market for people in their 20’s
