Assignment 7- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
1) People that bring their pets to ski resorts have to break up their days to let out their dog, and they often have that worry of their pet in the back of their mind all day because skiing or snowboarding all day long is a while to be left alone.
2) The who: People who bring their pets to ski resorts
The what: They have to break up their day on the mountain to take care of their pet
The why: A full day on the mountain is a long time to leave a pet alone, and they have the worry of their animal in the back of their mind all day.
3)I believe that people who bring their pets to ski resorts have a need for making sure that their animals are cared for while they are out on the mountain during the day.
The only people who have this problem are the people who bring their pets, most commonly dogs to ski resorts. I have been to many ski resorts around the world, and people love to bring their dogs. People treat their pets as part of the family. Often, these people would rather bring their pets with them to the mountain instead of leaving them home and having to find someone to care for them or put them in a pet care facility for the time being. Additionally, some of these people spend their entire winters at the mountain that they choose to go to. The only solution that these people have is to take one or two breaks a day to care for their pet. Some people decide to cut their day short.
4) After interviewing five people, my thought for this need was confirmed. The first person I talked to made an excellent point. He basically said that people bring their dogs because they want them there with the family. It's not so much the having to break up your day to care for them, its the constant worry in the back of your mind that makes it a bit stressful. Many of the hotels, condos, and houses at a ski resort are pet-friendly because they know that people enjoy bringing their dogs. Another person I interviewed explained that they would rather bring their dog to the mountain instead of boarding him and leaving him at home. The third person I talked to had a similar feeling because she said that dogs love the snow, so why would she want to leave her pet at home when her dog can be happier with her. The last two people I interviewed did not say anything that stuck out to me, and it was stuff that the previous people questioned had already said. I saw a common trend in my need, and no one disagreed that it was a need. I face this problem with my family each year we go snowboarding, and after talking to all of these people, I know that they have the same struggle too.

Hi Madison, I think this problem has a lot of potential for a lucrative solution. In recent years, the amount families spend of their pets has dramatically risen. People have begun to treats their pets like family, characterized by the saying "humanization of pets". A ton of new startups are forming to cater to the increased desire to spoil one's pets. Furthermore, since this is a service and not a product, you have a great opportunity to exploit something with large economies of scale. I look forward to reviewing your solution.
ReplyDeleteHi Madison, This is a good idea to look further into. I have a golden retriever that I would like to take with me on trips, too. I recently went to Colorado and had to leave her in a kennel back in Florida. I worried about her in the kennel and hoped she was treated well and happy. There is a person that I hire for my cat that will come to my home and check in on her. I worry about both of them and spend money for their care on top of that.
ReplyDeleteThe ski resort guests could hire a pet sitter to check on them, but that poses another problem, a stranger having access to their room, pet, and items. I’m anxious to see what comes of this bug item!
Hey Madison, like I said before on your previous assignment about this I really like this idea. Just like your first interview with the person I agree the main reason to bring your dog for travel would be to keep the whole family together. There is definitely a need for this especially in the skiing community. This could provide more jobs for more people and ultimately lead to the greatest amount of happiness by the family and pet. Overall a really good job on this post.
