Assignment 11- Idea Napkin No. 1
YOU: My name is Madison Berardo, and I am a third-year advertising major with a concentration in business. I have had three marketing internships, and I have another one lined up for this summer. I do not mind talking in front of big crowds, so I like public speaking. I am a very determined and dedicated person, so when I commit to something, I do not quit. I have always been interested in business, so starting my own would be a challenge I am willing to accept. In regards to my home life, I really enjoy snowboarding and animals. Opening up a pet care facility at ski resorts would combine many of the things that I enjoy doing. It would also give me a chance to live in the mountain for a while, which is something that I always wanted to do. This business would be a big part of my life.
WHAT ARE YOU OFFERING TO CUSTOMERS: The service that I would be providing is pet care at ski resorts. During the hours that the mountain operates, I would offer to board people's animals. Food, water, belly rubs and play time is included in the price. I also would provide a discount for people who have multiple animals. If a person does not want to board their pet, we will offer home visits for those who are staying/ living on the mountain.
WHO ARE YOU OFFERING IT TO: The typical customer is someone who goings skiing or snowboarding, and brings their pet with them to the mountain. This person can live on the mountain, or just be visiting. Ski resorts are expensive so most of the customers would have no problem paying to make sure that their pet is being taken care of.
WHY DO THEY CARE: The main reason people would take advantage of this service is to make sure that their animal is okay while they are out on the mountain. Many people enjoy bringing their pets to ski resorts because it is fun for them too. However, it is stressful to think about them being okay while the people are skiing and snowboarding. It is worth it to pay the full day price, $40, or the half day price, $25, to relieve the stress of worrying about your pet.
WHAT ARE YOUR CORE COMPETENCIES?: This business is entirely new to the mountain, and there is nothing like this service. In a day where people bring their dogs with them everywhere, it is a valuable business idea to those within the target market. This would allow skiers or snowboarders to drop their dog off at Snow Paws and get right out on the mountain for the day, stress-free. Snow Paws would be located right in the village, so whenever people finish up for the day they can walk two minutes and retrieve their well taken care of pet.

Growing up I always had pets, even since before I was born. When I was two, I learned how to ski, and when I was five, I learned how to snowboard. Hey Madison! I think your evaluation of your business and your competitive advantages is really great. I think your idea is really great and you have a lot of potential to build a successful business because of the need for this in the community. I know for a fact that if my family and I went skiing in your town, we would definitely use your service because we love our dogs so much and would love for them to come with us!
ReplyDeleteHi Madison! I like how thorough your analysis of your idea was, and how many different facets you touched on. I love the idea, but one thing that comes to mind for me when thinking about this is that I would not fly to somewhere in the mountains with my pets because I have three dogs, and transporting them is very difficult, so there is that segment to think about as well. Overall I love the idea for avid skiers and such!

ReplyDeleteI think you do a pretty thorough job of evaluating and realizing the worth of your business. Your idea is very unique and simple which are key characteristics for a business to be successful. The idea is a need of basically any skiers/snowboarders who travel with their pets. This need can be fulfilled with your business. Whenever my family goes out on vacation to Colorado we always leave our dog home because we don't want to leave her while we are out. Your service would allow us to bring any pets with us.
