In the past ten years, New Jersey's population has grown by 3.6 percent. New Jersey has now ranked the 35th fastest growing state in the country. While the state is increasing by number, individual counties are dropping in population. Many people in New Jersey are moving from the suburban areas to the more urban areas. New Jersey is an expensive state to live in. Towns with large school systems tend to have higher taxes. People are leaving rural towns and counties to be closer to the cities.

The problem in this story is that while the population of New Jersey is growing, individual towns and counties are experiencing a dramatic population shift.

This problem is faced by anyone who is also trying to move to urban areas. Additionally, this problem also affects the people of the towns that have a decreasing population.


2) "Medical Marijuana Can Now Be Used to Treat Opioid Addiction in NJ"

Opioids have now reached a new crisis in the state of New Jersey. According to the article, at least 3,100 residents died of a likely drug overdose (Arco, Livio). Additionally, the report also says that almost 150 people have died of drug overdoses in New Jersey already this year. The opioid crisis has been going on for many years, and at this point in time, it is about finding any solutions to the problem. Other states have proven that legalizing marijuana has decreased drug overdoses.

The problem in the story is that drug overdoses have become an increasing problem in the state of New Jersey and it is only getting worse.

This problem is faced by anyone who has a drug addiction.

The partial federal government shut down has been going on for 34 days and has affected too many workers. The Coast Guard is among some of the federal workers who have been working without pay. Some of the entry-level Coast Guard members already receive pay just above the poverty line. Some of these people are going to have trouble paying their taxes. Citizens of Cape May County, NJ have been very generous with supplying food to the Coast Guard base.

The problem in this story is that many federal workers are without pay, specifically members of the US Coast guard due to the partial government shut down.

This problem is faced by federal workers and their families.


4) "Airline Unions Question Safety in the Skies due to Federal Shut-down."

The pilots union, air traffic control union and flight attendant union all have questioned the safety of the skies due to the partial government shut down. TSA agents are some of the federal workers that are not getting paid. As a result, security lines have been much longer in the airports. The article explains that it is not unsafe to fly, but safety concerns are growing. Not as many TSA agents are working to make sure that the safety system is being completely upheld.

The problem in this story is that due to the partial government shut-down, not as many TSA agents have been working, which causes long lines and security concerns for people flying.

This problem is faced by airline travelers.


5) "Staying Safe During Winter Sports"

The winter time is the best time of the year for those who enjoy winter sports. Snowboarding, skiing, hockey, and sledding are very popular winter sports, that can also be dangerous. While participating in winter sports, it is essential to wear the proper gear, such as helmets or wrist guards. It is also important to be careful, and if someone gets hurt, it is essential to understand the appropriate treatment.

The problem in this story is that during the winter time, doctors see more skeletal injuries due to winter sports.

This problem is faced by anyone who participates in winter sports.

  1. Hey Madison, my whole family for the most part is either from New Jersey or New York so i found all of your articles to be quite interesting. I never knew anything about how the increase in population in New Jersey has lead to a decrease in population of smaller towns within the same state. I guess moving into an urban area of New Jersey would be very expensive and very populated not something I would like very much. Overall, you did a good job on all your other articles!

  2. Hi Madison! I think you found some really interesting opportunities throughout America that could possibly become good business ventures. I think your second article is especially interesting, as the growth of the marijuana industry was discussed in lectures and is now a multi-billion dollar industry. Marijuana industry being utilized in a way that would also reduce death from opioid overdoses, particularly in drug-ridden neighborhoods, would provide a lot of benefits besides economic.
